Ben has been painting professionally for over twenty years, after initially working as a Behavioural Therapist in the field of Autism—a role he loved, but from which he eventually turned to his true passion: painting.
Largely self-taught, Ben was guided in his early development by his late mother, a skilled artist who instilled in him a strong foundation in observation, draftsmanship, and attention to detail. His first works presented to galleries were inspired by the British coastline, a subject that continues to captivate him. While he has explored a range of landscapes, standing on a beach beneath a wide, open sky remains his ultimate source of escapism, and his paintings reflect this in a style he calls “imagined realism,” seeking the idealised beauty in every scene.
To hone his craft, Ben undertook the ambitious project of creating a thousand small studies over several years. These works allowed him to refine his technique and understanding of composition and light, while also finding homes with collectors in 22 countries worldwide—a milestone he describes as both humbling and crucial to his continued success.
Ben now works from his studio near the South Coast, while travelling extensively across the UK and abroad to capture fresh inspiration. His work is proudly represented at Westover Gallery, where collectors can explore his full range of coastal, landscape, and imagined-realist paintings—each piece reflecting meticulous technique, personal passion, and a deep love of the natural world.
