Andrew's journey as an artist spans over three decades, marked by passion, diverse experiences, and a relentless pursuit of artistic expression. Born in 1967 in Glasgow, his creative odyssey has taken him through various artistic realms, shaping him into the artist he is today.
Early in his career, Andrew found himself immersed in the world of miniature art as he joined Games Workshop's design studio at the tender age of 21. His role as a figure painter for the magazine 'White Dwarf' not only provided financial support but also ignited his artistic aspirations beyond the confines of his workplace.
After two years at Games Workshop, Andrew embarked on a freelance journey, undertaking a myriad of private commissions ranging from intricate pencil portraits to sweeping landscapes in oils. This period of independence allowed him to explore his artistic voice and hone his skills across different mediums.
Driven by a lifelong love for the performing arts, Andrew found himself drawn to the enchanting world of theater, particularly captivated by the mesmerizing productions of 'Cirque du Soleil.' His foray into the theater industry, working with the set design team at the Theatre Royal in Lincoln, offered him the opportunity to contribute his artistic talent to the grandeur of stagecraft, from painting colossal backdrops to meticulously crafting props.
Inspired by the pioneering style of fellow artist and friend, Jonathan Shaw, Andrew's aspiration to evoke emotional resonance through his art was deeply rooted. Witnessing Jonathan's work sparked a desire within Andrew to create pieces that would similarly stir the hearts and minds of viewers, propelling him towards the realm of fine art.
In 2006, Andrew's artistic journey took a significant turn as he signed with Washington Green Fine Art, marking a pivotal moment in his career. Although parting ways a year later, he entered into a licensing deal with Washington Green and Saffron Editions, experiencing worldwide success and expanding the reach of his artistic vision.
Transitioning seamlessly between creating his own artwork and imparting his knowledge to eager learners, Andrew has found fulfillment in teaching art classes since 2014. His dedication to nurturing the creative spirit in others mirrors his own artistic philosophy of liberation and exploration.
