In a move away from his traditional style, Robert Oxley has returned with an explosive take on his popular collection, Primal Colours.

As a chimpanzee is mostly black, painting Marcel gave the artist the chance to get creative and add the rainbow colours to the textured hair.

Playing with the composition, Robert says: “I wanted to change the format of my work and not be confined to the shape and form of the animal’s head. A great way to do this is to fill the whole canvas giving me the opportunity to be explosive and keep the tempo upbeat.”
