Westover Gallery welcomes Dorset Moon event with new Jonathan Truss collection

It has travelled all over the world and wowed thousands. Now Luke Jerram’s internationally acclaimed Museum of the Moon is making its way to Dorset for the first time as part of Dorset Moon.

This incredible installation features an astonishing seven metre diameter spherical sculpture. This free event is coming to Bournemouth, Sherborne and Weymouth over three weekends: Friday 28 June – Sunday 14 July. To celebrate, Westover Gallery will be hosting a lunar spectacle of its own, as we launch artist Jonathan Truss’s Out of the World collection.

On Friday 28th – Sunday 30th June Jonathan’s incredible new work will be exhibited in conjunction with Bournemouth's Dorset Moon event. These limited edition 'starscapes' feature luminescent paint that brightens in the dark; dim the lights and the night sky glows as if you were looking at the stars themselves.

Award-winning artist Jonathan has been observing and painting Wildlife for over 25 years, capturing the likeness African animals and diving with sharks to study them underwater. But throughout his time as an artist he’s had a desire to paint the planets above.

“Ever since photographing the Milky Way in the blackest night sky whilst camping in Botswana, I’ve wanted to do these paintings" says Jonathan of the collection.

“Earth, our precious beautiful planet, would not be taken so much for granted if we could see it like this - a miraculous beautiful sphere suspended in space, a miracle we call home!”

The intricate process of adding paint with glowing pigment to each individual print was a process of experimentation. It didn't just transform the canvas, but his studio as well. Now when he turns off the lights paint splatters on the floor and his overalls glow in the dark!

Timing the release to honour the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and with Dorset Moon arriving in Bournemouth just weeks before, Westover Gallery are thrilled to give art collectors the opportunity to purchase this eye-catching collection.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, you can get involved with the lunar celebrations this month and WIN a free Kosta Boda Watch worth £169.00! Take a selfie with the Dorset Moon in Bournemouth and post it with the hashtags #planetwestover and #dorsetmoon to be in with a chance of winning this amazing prize! Or, if you’re seeing Dorset Moon in Sherborne Abbey on the 5th - 7th July use #planetOBFG instead, thanks to our partner gallery Old Barn Framing!

Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Museum is a fusion of large-scale NASA lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound audio created by Ivor Novello Award and BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones. After stunning audiences all over the world it makes its Dorset debut in Bournemouth, Sherborne and Weymouth where, by the light of the mesmerising moonglow, a full programme of free lunar-inspired events will create an experience that’s out of this world.
