We say it every January, but we can’t believe the year has flown by already! It’s no surprise after such a busy 2018 at Westover Gallery. Inspiring exhibitions, critically acclaimed collections and a whole redesign! It was quite the year and, of course, it was you who made it so special. So please enjoy our summary of our 2018 and have a very Happy New Year!Love is in the airWe were filled with romance last Valentines Day like a pair of lovebirds. Breaking with tradition, Frogman's 2018 Valentine's Sculpture featured subject matter straight from the Tim Cotterill Aviary with Lovebirds. A beautifully crafted, solid bronze sculpture or two colourful lovebirds perched atop a silver nitrate reed.
Pow! It’s Portsmouth Comic Con!We had a super time at Portsmouth Comic Con in May, meeting some amazing comic book fans and collectors. We acted the hero and showcased some of our best signed, limited edition comic book prints. Rare and sold out pieces from The Marvel Collection hand-signed by the man Stan Lee himself (who sadly passed away later this year). For the DC fans we had signed memorabilia by famed DC artist Alex Ross, whose incredible Shadows Collection launched later in the year. It was a great time for DC fans, and Marvel-maniacs alike!
10-year Dylan celebrationFrom poetry to painting, Bob Dylan’s artistry has inspired millions across the globe. We were thrilled to launch the next chapter in his iconic The Drawn Blank Series in May. 14 hand-signed artworks of his most iconic and sought-after graphics from the series to date, the collection uncovered a new dimension and insight into the legend himself. Our clients had a great time at our official launch party, enjoying complimentary champagne, live music and the amazing collection.
Westover goes wild for Jonathan TrussWe were thrilled to host award-winning wildlife artist Jonathan Truss this June at the launch of his brand new collection. The charming Jonathan and his work wowed clients. There were breath-taking scenes inspired by his encounters with African animals. His underwater oil paintings featured turtles, sharks and dolphins, with a portion of sales going to the Marine Conservation Society to aid the environment of the creatures themselves. You can read more about Jonathan in Dorset Living Magazine’s write up here.
A new look for the galleryIt was all change in June as our beloved gallery got a full refurbishment! With a striking new interior to better match our fabulous art collection it was a celebration at Westover Gallery. We were particularly pleased with the relaxing viewing room. Complete with comfy sofa, the dark and light walls allow you to get a feel of how art will look in your own space. We’re thrilled with the outcome of all three floors of the gallery, and from your wonderful feedback!
Nothing's as sweet as HoneyAs summer dawned our Frogman collection was made all the brighter for the addition of the wonderful, exclusive Frogman release Honey! In sweet honey patina, little Honey was a fabulous frog to add to our collection. And little Honey would get a larger friend later in the year in the same patina with Ferguson!
Another dimension with John WilsonCollectors couldn’t believe their eyes when they joined us for John Wilson’s incredible exhibition this August. The popular artist’s mastery of the 3D canvas, painted by hand with no digital imaging or tracing, was a talking-point from those who joined us for the champagne reception. With John in attendance, our clients had the opportunity to discuss the work with the artist himself, and received personal dedications for their new artwork.
Fabulous flamingos by Amy LouiseBright, colourful and bursting with personality, artist Amy Louise’s animal creations were a hit with collectors at our September exhibition. Flamingos, ostriches and piglets were among some of the stars of her mixed media paintings. It was delightful to have Amy in attendance at Westover Gallery, and we’re thrilled to have launched her first limited edition collection this year.
The first outdoor Frogman BronzeIt was a scorching summer and perfect weather for sunbathing, whether you’re frog or human! Ferguson was a landmark release this year; the first outdoor Frogman Bronze sculpture! In weather-proof Cupric Green or China Wax Brown patinas, Ferguson always looks noble when relaxing by the pond.
Frogman comes to town!We were lucky enough to have the man himself Tim Cotterill visit us twice this year. Frogman collectors had the opportunity to meet world’s biggest selling bronze artist at our two ‘Little Box of Frogs’ events. Full of fun (and frogs of course!) it was another successful show at Westover Gallery. To celebrate Tim’s annual UK visit, two exclusive frogs were launched – Whisky & Ginger, alongside Westover Gallery exclusive Cherry, a special Stags Leap and a host of rare and brilliant bronzes. To make sure you’re the first to hear about Tim’s 2019 visit don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list today!
The times they are a-changingWhat an exciting year it was for Bob Dylan collectors. This autumn saw the launch of Dylan’s critically acclaimed new series, Mondo Scripto. Featuring handwritten lyrics of his iconic songs coupled with illustrations, Mondo Scripto was a true celebration of his career. Being one of the select few galleries to show the work in the UK, Westover Gallery were thrilled to bring Mondo Scripto to collectors.
An exclusive Richard Blunt launchTalented figurative artist Richard Blunt has wowed collectors since he first arrived on the art scene. So, of course, we were thrilled he chose Westover Gallery as the location to launch his latest collection, If These Walls Could Talk, in person. A modern take on his more traditional style, attendees loved the new direction for Richard at our popular winter exhibition.
New Billy Connolly collectionWinter saw renowned comedian, actor and artist Billy Connolly launch his latest art collection, Born On A Rainy Day. A project started over 10 years ago, the acclaimed work has been hugely popular among fine art collectors."It bears no relation to comedy or music," Connolly says of his creative process, "my art is pure and unjudged, I am creating for myself, it is personal and private; whereas with a film, comedy show or music you expect people to be critiquing, watching, assessing. Art is different, it liberates you."
Christmas goodies to end an amazing year!As the weather got colder and Christmas Day approached, it was a pure winter wonderland at Westover Gallery. Our Christmas window display pleased many as they flocked to Bournemouth for its Christmas Tree Wonderland. Our Winter Wonderland Collection featured snowy scenes to be enjoyed all year round, and what better way to end the year than the Christmas 2018 Frogman release, Spruce - the perfect gift for art collectors everywhere!
There’s so much we’re thankful for in 2018. Not just the fabulous artists who’ve visited the gallery and our hard working staff that made it all possible. But our biggest thank you has to go to you! Our amazing clients make Westover Gallery worthwhile, and helping you find artwork that you’ll adore for years to come brings us so much joy. So here’s to many more years of enjoying art and being forever inspired! Happy 2019!
