As a little boy, Robert dreamed of becoming a zoo keeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants that roamed his imagination are given new life in his dazzling paintings.

Robert says:''I’m trying to keep my pallet to one colour after coming off the back of some crazy colour schemes, which can be a very enjoyable battle. I hadn’t decided which single colour to go with even as I stepped to the canvas. There was no drawing this piece, just jump on in. I know how to swim, so dive in.

So, I threw down a green and a purple and let it dry and worked on Manny. The great thing about acrylics is they dry quicker than oils. So, I can make a move without waiting for drying times. Think it do it, I work together with acrylics. Also, they are great for transparent washes and glazing. I had a pallet with a pile of half mixes fluorescing yellow and red. Throwing this down over the greens and purple gave me the structure and form of the elephant, a nice straight forward piece, in and out in two days, perfect!''
