Origins of Superman Art

About Alex Ross

Alex Ross is an American comic book writer and artist who is primarily known for his painted interiors, covers and design work. Alex’s first major gig was at the age of 23 when he was hired by Marvel to illustrate Marvel’s central characters in the comic book event, Marvels. Alex went on to achieve big in this comic book career and has since become one of the world’s most preeminent and well-respected comic book artists.

Blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, Alex Ross takes a medium traditionally equipped with two dimensions and gives it the illusion of a third dimension, bringing a new perspective and style to comic book illustrations. Ross pushes the boundaries to make his work “fully believable”, and has been praised for his life-like human depictions, his rendering style, attention to detail and composition.
