After leaving college in Batley, Yorks in 1982, Stephen has drawn and painted for a living in the book publishing and film animation business for all his working life.
Most recently he has just completed a two year freelance contract with Aardman Animation in Bristol—creators of Wallace and Gromit—working on two major feature films due for release in 2011. Alongside this, he has always created works for his own pleasure.
Stephens artworks come purely from his own imagination and begin with loose sketches. These are then worked over and gradually refined, creating his own unique world of reality. The themes in his works, often featuring animals, echo the positive and negative experiences in life that thankfully usually balance themselves out.
‘Toby Goes on Holiday’ and ‘After a Walk’ are Stephens debut collection at Westover Gallery
