Bob Dylan is one of the world's most popular and acclaimed songwriters, musicians and performers, having sold more than 110 million albums and performed thousands of shows around the world in a career spanning five decades. He has recently been awarded a special Pulitzer Prize for his ‘profound impact on popular music & American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power'. In 2001 he received a golden globe and an Academy Award for best song from a motion picture for ‘Things Have Changed' from the movie ‘The Wonder Boys'. Bob Dylan was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
In addition to Bob Dylan's huge talent and accomplishment in the music and songwriting industry, he is creating huge excitement in the world of art! While Dylan has been a committed visual artist for more than four decades, 'The Drawn Blank Series' will cast a vibrant new light on the singular creativity of one of the world's most important and influential cultural figures.
‘The Drawn Blank Series' is based on drawings and sketches made by Dylan while on the road during the period of 1989 through to 1992. The paintings in ‘The Drawn Blank Series' visually echo the stylistic hallmarks of Dylan's prose, poetry and music. In the same way that Dylan's songs are constantly reinvigorated and rediscovered through his live performances, these paintings revisit images and scenes which were experienced and captured by the artist.
‘The Drawn Blank Series' has resulted in a much anticipated exhibition which explores the experience of dislocation and the ceaseless confrontation with new faces and new places which has characterized Dylan's life on tour. Feelings of anonymity, transience and sometimes loneliness pervade these representations of the people, objects and places that Dylan has seen and drawn.
