A J Callan
Name:A J Callan
Categories:

Mini Biography:
Born in Glasgow in 1958, my childhood was surrounded by the new confidence and optimism of 60’s Britain. Carnaby Street, the Beatles and jobs for everyone! I was constantly exposed to new ideas, sounds and fashions. Everyone was encouraged to let their imagination run free. From a young age I immersed myself in art. I was just as happy sitting with a drawing pad for hours on end as I was playing football with my brothers.

Mini Biography:
History and Background
I was born in 1969, the youngest of five children and grew up on a council estate in Leicester. It was a happy childhood. From an early age I was able to draw.
My mother and father were both creative people but in other trades. My mother was a hairdresser. She had a strong visual ability that allowed her to foresee how something should look before starting the task in hand; an essential pre-requisite for any artist.

Alexander Millar

Mini Biography:
I was born in 1960 into the small mining community of Springside a few miles outside the town of Kilmarnock on the west coast of Scotland. Life within the small Scottish village was very traditional and although I grew up in the 60’s era it felt more like the 40’s. My formative years were spent in the company of old men dressed in dark suits smoking woodbines partnered with large missile-shaped women decked out in headscarves and pinnies.

I was born in Bursa, Turkey in 1958.

Mini Biography:
It was on Christmas morning, when I was twelve years old, that my mother gave me one of the best presents I have ever received - an oil painting set.  That was the start and I have been painting ever since.  I was immediately captivated by what could be achieved with a brush, some oil paint and a few small squares of hardboard; I used to paint on the reverse side because I thought it looked like proper canvas.

I have been painting for as long as I can remember. I lived on the outskirts of London which meant I benefited from being within easy reach of London Galleries and open countryside, both of which were a source of immense inspiration to me. As an only child I had the freedom to immerse myself in my work, I also received a great deal of encouragement and guidance from my Grandmother who raised me for which I am eternally grateful.

Debra Stroud
Name:Debra Stroud
Categories:
Abstract, Contemporary

Mini Biography:
My first creative attempt, at the age of two and a half, was to peel off the nursery freeze that my Mother had applied to the wall minutes earlier.

I have always had a creative mind and as a child I used to send my inventions to various toy manufacturers. One of my designs was for an all enclosed sledge encapsulated in a sort of gyroscopic pod so that you stayed in a stable position as you hurtled down a snowy hill. The company – ‘Triang’- liked my design and sent me a kind and heartening letter and a doll’s cot!
